CHAPTER ONE
THE CHURCHâS MISSIONARY
TRANSFORMATION
19.âEvangelization takes place in obedience to
the missionary mandate of Jesus: âGo therefore
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
that I have commanded youâ (
Mt
28:19-20). In

God challenges those who believe in him âto go
forthâ. Abraham received the call to set out for

Gen
12:1-3). Moses heard Godâs
call: âGo, I send youâ (
Ex
3:10) and led the peo-

Ex
3:17). To
Jeremiah God says: âTo all whom I send you, you
shall goâ (
Jer
1:7). In our day Jesusâ command to
âgo and make disciplesâ echoes in the changing

mission of evangelization, and all of us are called

Each Christian and every community must dis-
