TERTIUM MILLENNIUM IN POLISH
Dominik Morawski

The first edition of the «Trzecie Tysiaclecie» (Tertium Millennium) dated October-December 1997, and dedicated to the preparations in Poland for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2,000 has as its cover the Logo of the Jubilee and includes documents from the Universal and Polish Church from this historic century. In the preface, Archbishop Henrik Muzynsky, vice-president of the National Committee for the Jubilee celebrations, recalls that the end of the second millennium of Christianity coincides in Poland with the millennium of the preaching of Saint Adalbert and of his martyrdom; subsequently published are the translations of an article by Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, taken from Tertium Millennium and an interview of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger by the German news agency KNA.
In the section that refers specifically to the Church in Poland, Monsignor Damian Zimon, Archbishop of Katowice presents the pastoral program in light of the Great Jubilee, focused on the hoped for «re-invigoration of the faith and of the Christian witness» and inspired towards the «new evangelization» called for by the Pope during his fifth pastoral visit to his Homeland.
Amongst the diocesan initiatives, one which should be highlighted is that undertaken by the Institute Tertium Millennium in Krakow, which is based on focusing and «creating a group of politicians, cultural and media people, who are attracted by the same Great Jubilee and in general by the Pontifical Magisterium».
