THE CALENDAR A FUNDAMENTAL STEP ALONG THE JUBILEE PATH

On our journey towards the Great Jubilee of the year 2000, accompanied by the words of Pope John Paul II who wished to dedicate in a special way to meditation on the Holy Spirit this second year of preparation, the publication of the Calendar is a fundamental step, since it serves to set within the liturgy the celebrations for the now imminent Holy Year. So in this issue of our magazine, the third of 1998, we intend to offer our readers a first series of ideas and reflections so as to examine the contents of the calendar following its fundamental stages. This commitment will continue in the up-coming numbers of Tertium Millennium, and from henceforth will characterize the contents of the magazine .

The first part of the magazine focuses on the year of the Holy Spirit, re-proposing Pope John Paul II’s catechesis on the Holy Spirit in the Old and New Testament, in the Incarnation and in the Paschal mystery. This section offers a presentation by Pastor Paolo Ricca on the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit in the Reformers, and a reminder of the Pentecost Prayer Vigil celebration presided by the Pope and attended by representatives of Church Movements.

A dossier on the Jubilee Calendar forms the central part of the magazine. You will find also the addresses given by Cardinal Etchegaray and Archbishop Sepe during the Press Conference on May 26th and the Presentation which they wrote to illustrate the various different liturgical appointments, ecumenical events, penitential celebrations, pilgrimages for various groups and categories of faithful. After which theologians and experts offer comments on the Calendar month by month.

The customary sections, Jubilee in the World and Library, complete this issue of Tertium Millennium, in which we offer once again, inside the cover, as a seal on the contents, the prayer to the Holy Spirit composed by the Holy Father for the second year of preparation for the Jubilee.
