CELEBRATION OF EVENING PRAYER FOR THE
OPENING OF THE FORTY-SEVENTH INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS
On Sunday, 18 June 2000, at 6:30 p.m., in
Saint Peter’s Square, His Holiness Pope John Paul II will preside at Second
Vespers of the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity on the occasion of the Opening of
the XLVII International Eucharistic Congress. The Congress has as its theme:
"Jesus Christ, the one Saviour of the World, Bread for New Life".

The celebration will include the following ritual moments:
— the entrance procession of the Holy
Father and the sacred ministers — exposition of the Blessed Sacrament —
the celebration of Evening Prayer — Eucharistic Benediction

All those who, in conformity with the Motu
Proprio "Pontificalis Domus" are members of the Cappella
Pontificia and wish to take part in the Liturgical Celebration are asked
to be present by 6:00 p.m. in Saint Peter’s Square, where they will be shown
their assigned places.
The following indications are given with
regard to dress:
— Cardinals, Patriarchs, Archbishops, and Bishops
wear the rochet and mozzetta over their proper choir dress; — Abbots and
Religious vest in their proper choir dress. — Prelates wear the rochet
and mantelletta, or the surplice, over the purple cassock and purple sash,
according to their rank; — Chaplains of His Holiness wear the surplice
over the black cassock with purple piping and purple sash.
