RITI INIZIALI
Alla processione d’ingresso verso l’altare della Basilica prendono parte il
Santo Padre e i Rappresentanti delle Chiese e Comunità ecclesiali. La
processione è aperta dal Libro dei Vangeli portato da un Diacono ortodosso e
accompagnato da quattro lampade portate da laici provenienti dalle diverse
Chiese e Comunità ecclesiali.
Durante la processione la schola e l’assemblea eseguono il
Canto d’inizio
BEATI PACIFICI
Intronizzazione del Libro dei Vangeli
Giunta la processione davanti all’altare il Libro dei Vangeli viene collocato
sull’apposito tronetto. Quindi il Santo Padre e il Patriarca Ecumenico
infondono l’incenso e due Diaconi, un ortodosso e uno latino, incensano il
Libro dei Vangeli.

Padre, Figlio e Spirito Santo,

Orazione
Il Santo Padre:
Preghiamo, in pace, il Signore.
Padre Santo,
nel tuo Figlio Gesù Cristo
hai donato a tutte le creature la salvezza e il
perdono,
la redenzione e la pace:
guarda a noi,
che hai consacrato nel nome del tuo
Unigenito,
in un mondo spesso inquieto e violento,
siamo messaggeri del lieto annunzio ai
poveri,
annunciatori di misericordia e di riconciliazione,
operatori di pace.
Oggi non si indurisca il nostro cuore
come quello dei nostri padri nel
deserto,
ma, riscaldati dal fuoco del tuo Santo Spirito,
accogliamo la Parola di vita
con la disponibilità di Maria, la madre del Signore,
di Francesco d’Assisi
e dei numerosi testimoni della fede.
La tua Parola
penetri in noi come spada tagliente;
ci faccia conoscere i sentieri del perdono reciproco
oltre
«sette volte sette»;
ci ammaestri per costruire comunità di fede
aperte alla comunione più
vasta;
ci insegni ad essere costruttori di pace
perché la civiltà dell’amore
testimoni il Regno che è e che viene.

Father most holy,

Fratelli, ora invece, in Cristo Gesu, voi che un tempo
eravate i lontani siete diventati i vicini grazie al sangue di Cristo. Egli
infatti è la nostra pace, colui che ha fatto dei due un popolo solo,
abbattendo il muro di separazione che era frammezzo, cioè l'inimicizia,
annullando, per mezzo della sua carne, la legge fatta di prescrizioni e di
decreti, per creare in sè stesso, dei due un solo uomo nuovo, facendo la
pace, e per riconciliare tutti e due con Dio in un solo corpo, per mezzo della
croce, distruggendo in sè stesso l'inimicizia. Egli è venuto perciò ad

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Ephesians.
But now in Christ Jesus you once were far off have been
brought near through the blood of Christ. It is he who is our peace, and who
made the two of us one by breaking down the barrier of hostility that kept us
apart. In his own flesh he abolished the law with its commands and precepts,
to create in himself one new man from us who had been two, and to make peace,
reconciling both of us to God in one body through his cross, which put that
enmity to death. He came and "announced the good news of peace to you who
were far off, and to those who were near"; through him we both have
access in one Spirit to the Father.

dato ai tuoi discepoli la tua pace, che sorpassa ogni intelligenza, e che non
essendo di questo mondo non viene data come la dà il mondo;
tu che hai detto con la tua bocca veritiera che dal cuore dell'uomo escono
pensieri e desideri malvagi che lo contaminano, nonchè per bocca del tuo San
Giacomo ci hai insegnato che le guerre e le lotte nel mondo provengon dai

Dalla lettera di san Paolo apostolo ai Romani.
Vi esorto dunque, fratelli, per la misericordia di Dio, ad
offrire i vostri corpi come sacrificio vivente, santo e gradito a Dio; è questo il vostro culto spirituale. Non conformatevi alla
mentalità di questo
secolo, ma trasformatevi rinnovando la vostra mente, per poter discernere la
volontà di Dio, ciò che è buono , a lui gradito e perfetto. Per la grazia
che mi è stata concessa, io dico a ciascuno di voi: non valutatevi più di
quanto è conveniente valutarsi, ma valutatevi in maniera da avere di voi una
giusta valutazione, ciascuno secondo la misura di fede che Dio gli ha dato.
Poichè, come in un solo corpo abbiamo molte membra e queste membra non hanno
tutte la medesima funzione, così anche noi, pur essendo molti, siamo un solo
corpo in Cristo e ciascuno per la sua parte siamo membra gli uni degli altri.
Abbiamo pertanto doni diversi secondo la grazia data a ciascuno di noi. Chi
ha il dono della profezia la eserciti secondo la misura della fede; chi ha un
ministero attenda al ministero; chi l'insegnamento, all'insegnamento; chi
l'esortazione, all'esortazione. Chi dà, lo faccia con semplicità; chi
presiede, lo faccia con diligenza; chi fa opere di misericordia, le compia con
gioia.
La carità non abbia finzioni: fuggite il male con orrore,
attaccatevi al bene; amatevi gli uni gli altri con affetto fraterno,
gareggiate nello stimarvi a vicenda. Non siate pigri nello zelo; siate invece
ferventi nello spirito, servite il Signore. Siate lieti nella speranza, forti
nella tribolazione, perseveranti nella preghiera, solleciti per le necessità
dei fratelli, premurosi nell'ospitalità.
Benedite coloro che vi
perseguitano, benedite e non maledite. Rallegratevi con quelli che sono nella
gioia, piangete con quelli che sono nel pianto. Abbiate i medesimi sentimenti
gli uni verso gli altri; non aspirate a cose troppo alte, piegatevi invece a
quelle umili. Non fatevi un'idea troppo alta di voi stessi. Non rendete a
nessuno male per male. Cercate di compiere il bene davanti a tutti gli uomini.
Se possibile, per quanto questo dipende da voi, vivete in pace con tutti. Non
fatevi giustizia da voi stessi, carissimi, ma lasciate fare all'ira divina.
Sta scritto infatti: A me la vendetta, sono io che ricambierò, dice il
Signore. Al contrario, se il tuo nemico ha fame, dagli da mangiare; se ha sete,
dagli da bere: facendo questo, infatti, ammasserai carboni ardenti sopra
il suo capo. Non lasciarti vincere dal male, ma vinci con il bene il
male.

And now, brothers, I beg you through the mercy of God to
offer you bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable, to God, your
spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by
the renewal of your mind, so that you may judge what is God's will, what is
good, pleasing and perfect. Thus, in virtue of the favour given to me, I warn
each of you not to think more highly of himself than he ought. Let him
estimate himself soberly, in keeping with the measure of faith that God has a
apportioned him. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not
all the members have the same function, so too we, though many, are one body
in Christ and individually members one of another. We have gifts that differ
according to the favor bestowed on each of us. One's gift may be prophecy; its
use should be in proportion to his faith. It may be the gift of ministry; it
should be used for service. One who is a teacher should use his gift for
teaching; one with the power of exhortation should exhort. He who gives alms
should do so generously; he who rules should exercise his authority with care;
he who performs works of mercy should do so cheerfully.
Your love
must be sincere. Detest what is evil, cling to what is good. Love one another
with the affection of brothers. Anticipate each other in showing respect. Do
not grow slack but be fervent in spirit; he whom you serve is the Lord.
Rejoice in hope, be patient under trial, persevere in prayer. Look on the
needs of the saints as your own; be generous in offering hospitality.
Bless
your persecutors; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice,
weep with those who weep. Have the same attitude toward all. Put away
ambitious thoughts and associate with those who are lowly. Do not be wise in
your own estimation. Never repay injury with injury. See that your
conduct is honourable in the eyes of all. If possible, live peaceably with
everyone. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; leave that to God's wrath, for it
is written: " 'Vengeance is mine; I will repay,' says the Lord." But
"if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something
to drink; by doing this you will heap burning coals upon his head." Do
not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.

Dal libro dell'Apocalisse.
Vidi poi un nuovo cielo e una nuova terra,
perchè il cielo
e la terra di prima erano scomparsi e il mare non c'era più. Vidi anche la
città santa, la nuova Gerusalemme, scendere dal cielo, da Dio, pronta come
una sposa adorna per il suo sposo. Udii allora una voce potente che usciva dal
trono: «Ecco la dimora di Dio con gli uomini! Egli dimorerà tra di loro ed
essi saranno il suo popolo ed egli sarà il "Dio-con-loro". E tergerà
ogni lacrima dai loro occhi; non ci sarà più la morte, nè lutto, nè lamento,
nè affanno, perchè le cose di prima sono passate».
E Colui
che sedeva sul trono disse: «Ecco, io faccio nuove tutte le cose»; e
soggiunse: «Scrivi, perchè queste parole sono certe e veraci». Ecco sono
compiute! Io sono l'Alfa e l'Omega, il Principio e la Fine. A colui che ha
sete darò gratuitamente acqua della fonte della vita. Chi sarà vittorioso
erediterà questi beni; io sarò il suo Dio ed egli sarà mio figlio.
Mi
mostrò poi un fiume d'acqua viva limpida come cristallo, che scaturiva dal
trono di Dio e dell'Agnello. In mezzo alla piazza della città e da una parte
e dall'altra del fiume si trova un albero di vita che dà dodici raccolti e
produce frutti ogni mese; le foglie dell'albero servono a guarire le nazioni.
E
non vi sarà più maledizione. Il trono di Dio e dell'Agnello sarà in mezzo a
lei e i suoi servi lo adoreranno; vedranno la sua faccia e porteranno il suo
nome sulla fronte. Non vi sarà più notte e non avranno più bisogno di luce
di lampada, nè di luce di sole, perchè il Signore Dio li illuminerà e
regneranno nei secoli dei secoli.
A reading from the book of Revelation.
Then I saw new heavens and a new earth. The former heavens
and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no longer. I also saw a
new Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down out of heaven from God, beautiful as
a bride prepared to meet her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne cry
out: "This is God's dwelling among men. He shall dwell with them and they
shall be his people and he shall be their God who is always with them. He
shall wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or
mourning, crying out or pain, for the former world has passed away".
The
One who sat on the throne said to me, " See, I make all things new!"
Then he said, "Write these matters down, for the words are trustworthy
and true."
He went on to say: "These words are already fulfilled!
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To anyone who thirsts
I will give to drink without cost from the spring of life-giving water. He who
wins the victory shall inherit these gifts; I will be his God and he shall be
my son.
The angel then showed me the river of life-giving water,
clear as crystal, which issued from the throne of God and of the Lamb, and
flowed down the middle of the streets. On either side of the river grew the
trees of life which produce fruit twelve times a year, once each month; their
leaves serve as medicine for the nations.
Nothing deserving a curse
shall be found there. The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be there, and
his servants shall serve him faithfully. They shall see him face to face and
bear his name on their foreheads. The night shall be no more. They will need
no light from lamps or the sun, for the Lord God shall give them light, and
they shall reign forever.

Padre celeste, aiuta la nostra debolezza e la povertà della nostra natura umana,
affinchè possa stare di fronte alla tua sovranità e chiedere che tu apra i tesori della tua grazia; irrora nei nostri
cuori la rugiada della tua abbondante misericordia.
Ti supplichiamo,
Signore, ascolta la preghiera di noi che siamo riuniti assieme da diverse fedi

preghiamo, dunque, di elargire abbondantemente tranquillità, pace e
riconciliazione in un mondo agitato e afflitto. Illumina i cuori dei capi
delle nazioni perchè collaborino a far avvicinare sempre più i popoli tra
loro per il bene di tutta l'umanità e a preservare la nostra immagine
dell'uomo che le tue mani hanno plasmato.
Signore ricco di compassione,
accogli le preghiere che questa assemblea offre davanti al trono della tua
maestà. Versa l'acqua della tua durevole pace sulla terra, perchè i poveri, i
bisognosi, gli affamati, gli orfani e le vedove, possano gustare i frutti
della tua bontà.
Signore, ti chiediamo di benedire, guidare e istruire
ciascuno di noi perchè possa essere messaggero di pace e di amore nella
propria terra, tra il proprio popolo e tra i propri fratelli nella stessa fede.
Ora e sempre lodiamo e adoriamo il tuo nome santo. Amen.

Heavenly Father, help our weakness and the
poverty of our human race that we may stand before your sovereignty. We ask
that you open unto us the treasures of your grace; sprinkle upon our hearts
the dew of your abundant mercy.
We beseech you, O Lord, hear the prayer of
those who are gathered together from among different faiths and ethnic groups.
Almighty God and Father, we come here today affirming our faith in you, who
are our Father, rich in mercy and compassion; for you do not delight in the
destruction of your creation, nor in its perdition.
We now ask you to
shower forth tranquillity, peace and reconciliation in a world that is
troubled and grieved. Enlighten the hearts of the leaders of nations, that
they may collaborate in drawing peoples closer together for the good of all of
humanity, and in preserving the noble image of man which your hands have
fashioned.
Most compassionate Lord, receive the prayers of this gathering
offered before the throne of your majesty. Sprinkle the waters of your lasting
peace upon the earth, that the poor, needy, hungry, orphaned and widowed may
taste of the fruits of your goodness.
O Savior, we ask you to bless, guide
and teach each and every one of us to be a herald of peace and love in his own
land among his own people and his brothers and sisters in faith. Now and
henceforth we praise and worship your holy name. Amen.
