"... Here I am, Lord!" (Is 6:8)

SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

FOR RESPONSIBLES OF THE CHURCH'S DIAKONIA

ON THE EUROPEAN CONTINENT

Czestochowa, Poland (29 November - 3 December 2010)

The Pontifical Council Cor Unum, the "agency of the Holy See responsible for orienting and coordinating the organizations and charitable activities promoted by the Catholic Church" ( Deus Caritas est 32), is organizing Spiritual Exercises for the responsibles of the diocesan Caritas and other ecclesial agencies in the Continent of Europe. These will take place at the Marian Shrine of Jasna Góra, Czestochowa, Poland, from Monday, 29 November - Friday, 3 December 2010. The theme of the Exercises is "Here I am, Lord!" ( Is 6.8).

Pope Benedict XVI’s first Encyclical, Deus Caritas est, calls for a "formation of the heart" of charity workers in order that they may be led to the "encounter with God in Christ, which awakens their love and opens their spirit to others" (n. 31a). The Spiritual Exercises are intended to provide for this need through a "school for deepening faith". Beside the necessary material assistance, human affliction needs a message of hope that only Christ can give through faith-filled witnesses.

This is the third such gathering. In June 2008, 500 leaders of the Catholic Church’s mission of charity from North America, Latin America and the Caribbean met in Guadalajara, Mexico. For Asia, the meeting took place in September 2009 in Taipei, Taiwan, and was attended by 450 participants.
