HOLY FATHER'S DONATION TO THE CHURCH IN SYRIA,
GIVEN BY THE SECRETARY OF COR UNUM,
MSGR. GIAMPIETRO DAL TOSO

Well known are the
repeated appeals of the Holy Father for the cease of violence in
Syria so that a path to dialogue and reconciliation can be found in
view of peace and the common good among the different parties in the
conflict. Now, the Holy Father has decided to donate through the
Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”, $100,000 USD destined for charitable
works of the local Church in Syria in favor of the tried population.
The Secretary of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”, Monsignor
Giampietro Dal Toso, will be the bearer of the Holy Father’s gift on
Saturday, March 31, 2012. Meetings with His Beatitude Gregorios III
Laham, President of the Assembly of Catholic Hierarchy in Syria and
with other representatives of the local Church are foreseen. The
Catholic Church in Syria, through its charitable agencies is at
present engaging in programs of assistance to the Syrian population,
in particular in the area of Homs and Aleppo.
