HOLY
THURSDAY THE
POPE FOR MOZAMBIQUE
Thursday, April 20, 2000, at 5:30 p.m., the Eucharistic Celebration of
the "Last Supper" will be presided by the Holy Father in Saint
Peter's Basilica. We remember Christ who gives up Himself; it is the memory of
the institution of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
On this occasion, the Pope asks for a tangible sign of Charity in
favour of the population of Mozambique, recently struck by devastating floods.
This invitation to help the flood victims is a follow-up to the mission
- entrusted by the Holy Father to the President of the Pontifical Council Cor
Unum - to Mozambique last March.
About one million homeless have reason for hope thanks to the closeness
of the Holy Father and of the Catholic Church. We should not let them down.
