Ce petit guide traduit du français est la deuxième édition italienne qui suit celle de 1990. Sans ignorer l'apport fondamental des grands spécialistes des religions comme Georges Dumézil, Mircea Eliade, Rudolf Otto, et après une description exhaustive de l'" homo religiosus " dans toutes ses exigences et ses manifestations spirituelles, l'Auteur nous conduit à travers les diverses religions du monde de tous les temps et de tous les lieux. En partant des religions anciennes, paléolithique, hittite, égyptienne, grecque, romaine etc., en passant par les religions d'Asie, hindouisme, bouddhisme, taoïsme, Afrique et Australie, le lecteur arrive aux trois grands monothéismes : juif, chrétien et islamique, c'est–à–dire la postérité d'Abraham. Dans la conclusion, " Le salut de l'homme et l'avenir de la religion ", le Cardinal Poupard souligne que le sentiment religieux, naguère marginalisé et même refusé, reprend vigueur aujourd'hui. Beaucoup de jeunes retrouvent le goût de la prière à Taizé. Des millions à Czestochowa, à Manille et à Paris, sont autour du Pape, dans un élan de joie et d'espérance.

The Pontifical Council for Culture and the Pontifical Council for Social Communications jointly with the "Ente dello Spettacolo" promoted in 1997 a meeting on "Cinema as a Vehicle of Spirituality and Culture. Reflections and Challenges in the Present Cultural and Productive Context". This event took place in Rome from 1st to 3rd December 1997 within the framework of the first edition of the Festival of the Spiritual Cinema "Tertio Millennio". The book contains the proceedings of this international meeting which was a study on contents, places and techniques through which the cinema becomes a powerful medium able to transmit values linked with human spirituality. Taking part in this meeting and delivering their own papers, scholars, critics, theologians and directors tried to answer the many important questions concerning the cinema today.
