A Close-Up Look at the Map: Explorer 5.x - Netscape 4.x | colofon This initiative follows the heritage of an old Roman tradition that calls for a new map of the Eternal city to be drawn up for the cyclical reoccurence of the Jubilee. This "grand map" offers an exact image of the city and documents its most recent urban transformations both civic and ecclesiastic while at the same time maintaining an artistic integrity as it was etched and illustrated. The Vatican Library boasts a long experience of scientific study on the iconography of the city. On many occasions the Library has been both the promoter and editor of prime studies on this subject and for years has been developing an important activity of reproducing maps of both Rome and the Vatican.
