The Catholic Church, Through the Central Committee of the Jubilee for the Year 2000, gave a Christmas gift, during the month of December, to the three million families in the country.

The gift is a guide for preparation which has allowed all Chileans to unite in prayer around the nativity scene. The population received this gift with great devotion and affection and used it to receive Jesus in its homes.

Considering that 90% of the population is Catholic, the distribution campaign for this gift began with the handing out of the document by Monsignor Francisco José Cox, President of the National Committee for the Jubilee of the Year 2000, to the nation’s leader, President Eduardo Frei and his family, who received it in the name of all Chileans.

The package of the triptych - whose theme is: "Christmas in the Family: In the Year of the Holy Spirit we Prepare the Jubilee of the Year 2000" - was possible thanks to the disinterested contribution of people and companies, which made available their time and means to carry out this initiative. The document - which carried on its front cover the image of the Sacred Family - was distributed, with the collaboration of transport companies, to the thirty Dioceses across the national territory and, then, to all the faithful.

To unite Chileans in the celebration of Christmas Night focused on the figure of Jesus Christ and get them accustomed to the use of this guide, mass information was provided on the television and the main radio stations, which gave their spaces for the Jubilee.

As far as the television circulation was concerned, one of the most important advertising companies in the country, made its services available free of charge. The message, characterised by its incisiveness, showed a group of six hundred people celebrating the birth of Jesus with candles in their hands, while the families were being invited to make use of the triptych of the Nativity.

In this way each home in the country opened its doors to receive the Sacred Family allowing it to become the "new Nativity Scene, where Mary could give birth to her Son", as indicated in the preparation guide which also contained an invocation to God and to the Holy Spirit: "everyone of us needs his presence in his life".
