COR UNUM PUBLISHES THE SIXTH EDITION OF THE
CATHOLIC AID DIRECTORY
The Pontifical Council Cor Unum has recently published the Catholic Aid Directory (CAD), an updated guide of some 1100 Entities, International and National Catholic Agencies and Offices active in the socio-charitable area. It is an attempt to respond to the growing need of information on the part of Dioceses, Missionary Congregations, and Volunteer associations that carry out charitable work throughout the world.
Apart from its printed format, the CAD will also soon be available on the Vatican website, under Cor Unum's page (see www.vatican.va), allowing for a more effective search by name, country and continent in which an Entity operates, as well as type of projects funded, etc. It will also be possible to print the results.
The 630-page hardback version of the CAD is divided into two parts. The first part, in four languages (English, French, Spanish, Italian), gives information and useful fact sheets for consultation. The second part lists socio-charitable Entities each of which includes all necessary information such as its continent, region, country, address, telephone number, fax, e-mail, etc. For each Entity, an indication is given whether it finances projects or not, what type of projects it supports, if it sends volunteers or fosters inter-country adoptions and the countries in which it is operative.
It is hoped that this volume, which traces the "map" of charity in the world, be a witness of the universal service to the poorest of the poor, carried out by the Church. However, it should also be of assistence to those communities most in need of contacting institutions which support socio-charitable projects.
