APOSTOLIC JOURNEY TO BOGOTA

ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER PAUL VI
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CONSULAR CORPS IN COLUMBIA
*

Friday, 23 August 1968

To you also, dear Gentlemen, distinguished members of the Consular Corps in Columbia, we wish to address a word of greeting and Our good wishes.

You hold posts of responsibility in the service of your respective countries, and you engage in activity which is, perhaps, not always appreciated as much as it would merit. What delicate affairs – dramatic at times – you often negotiate, the result of which may be a solution of a difficult personal situation, an assured peace, or assistance rendered to a family. This will depend often on deeds, humble and unknown, but which can be instrumental of a great good.

You know how the Catholic Church is solicitous for the welfare of persons, even in the temporal order, and it is to this you principally devote your concern. We wish to tell you that the Church appreciates and encourages warmly such activities as those which have been confided to you, and she wholeheartedly desires their success and efficacy.

We are happy to assure you of this as We invoke upon yourselves, your families, and your countries an abundance of divine blessings.
