PUBLICATIONS

During the X Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, the Bulletin Synodus Episcoporum, published in the plurilingual, Italian, English, French and Spanish versions, gave accredited journalists the chance to follow the work of the Synod on a day to day basis. It also allowed the Synodal Fathers to have an immediate summary of the works. Finally, through the Internet, it reached the media operators and non-journalistic organisms throughout the world.

From September 29^th to the October 27^th 2001, 33 editions of the Synodus Episcoporum Bulletins with an overall circulation about 1.500 copies (400 plurilingual, 300 Italian, 300 English, 250 French, 250 Spanish) totaling 50.000 copies, were published in the 5 language editions. Further editions were also published for various numbers and in the different languages.

The Temporary Office of the Holy See Press Office, in charge of publication and translation of information on the X Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, made available in electronic form all the information released, with a total of 1620 files for 380 texts in 4 languages (Italian, English, French and Spanish) and 165 files for 33 editions of the Synodus Episcoporum Bulletin in 5 languages (plurilingual, Italian, English, French and Spanish) to the Graphic Office of the L’Osservatore Romano, to the SEDOC (Central Documentation Service) of Vatican Radio and to the Editorial Office of Vatican Information Service.

In addition, this office provided the Bulletin Department of the Holy See Press Office with the plurilingual edition of the Bulletin Synodus Episcoporum, in electronic form.

It was also in charge for the fifth time of the publication in HTLM and the publication on the Internet of the Bulletin Synodus Episcoporum, in 5 language versions (plurilingual, Italian, English, French and Spanish), available on the Holy See’s Internet Site ( http://www.vatican.va). From September 29^th to October 26^th 2001, the Bulletin was consulted about 70.000 times, on a daily average number of about 2.500 times (plurilingual edition 6.000, Italian 16.000, English 20.000, French 7.000, Spanish 18.000).

ACCREDITATION

For this X Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, in addition to the 450 permanently accredited journalists, a further 215 correspondents were accredited, who had purposely come to Rome to cover this event.
