SYNTHESIS

"From tolerance to mutual respect: the way to complete humanism". This is the theme of Cardinal Paul PoupardÂ’s essay (p. 12-25). Starting with anthropology and with a brief historical sketch, His Eminence says that faith and reason, fides et ratio, are both necessary for a complete humanism on the threshold of the third Millennium. Being open to the Absolute is essential for a sincere and authentic dialogue between cultures and persons; this is the only way to overcome divisions and to walk hand in hand along the road which is built on truth and love.

"De la tolerancia al respeto mutuo, para un pleno humanismo" es el tema del artículo del Cardenal Paul Poupard (p. 12-25). Iniciando con la Antropología y recorriendo brevemente la historia, su Eminencia conjuga la Fe y la Razón, "Fides et Ratio", para un Humanismo pleno en el umbral del nuevo milenio. Solamente estando abiertos al absoluto es posible el diálogo sincero y auténtico entre las culturas y las personas, para poder superar las divisiones y para caminar juntos la vía construida sobre la verdad y el amor.

Father Luca Pellegrini, of the Pontifical Council for Culture, gives an account (p. 45-49) of the conference organized by the Council, in co-operation with the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and the Italian Institute of the Performing Arts (Ente dello Spettacolo) on the theme: "Art, life and film. Sensibility, spirituality and culture", which took place in Rome from 17 to 19 November 1998. Film can be a positive vehicle for the expression of true humanism, but it can also arouse anxiety or unhealthy behaviour. The Church is well aware of this challenge and encourages people in the film industry in the pedagogical, cultural and pastoral aspects of their work.

LÂ’Abbé Pellegrini du Conseil pontifical de la Culture présente (p. 45-49) le Congrès " Art, vie et cinéma. Sens esthétique, exigences spirituelles et défis culturels ", promu par ce Dicastère en union avec le Conseil pontifical des Communications Sociales et en collaboration avec lÂ’Ente dello Spettacolo. Il sÂ’est déroulé à Rome du 17 au 19 novembre 1998. Le cinéma peut être un facteur de promotion de lÂ’humanisme authentique, bien quÂ’il puisse susciter angoisses et tendances dangereuses. LÂ’Église, consciente du défi, le soutient dans sa mission pédagogique, culturelle et pastorale.

"Why should theology be concerned with film and, likewise, why should films be concerned with theology?" This was the question asked by auxiliary Bishop Rino Fisichella of Rome, in his talk during the "Art, life and film" conference (p. 50-53). His approach led him to conclude that film can mediate the content of faith in a particularly effective way. The link between these two areas is that film presents and theology seeks to understand mystery.

" Pourquoi la théologie devrait-elle sÂ’occuper du cinéma ? En sens contraire, pourquoi celui-ci devrait-il porter attention à celle-là ? " : telle est la question abordée par Mgr Rino Fisichella, Évêque auxiliaire de Rome, au Congrès " Art, vie et cinéma " (p. 50-53). Le cinéma est un instrument privilégié pour exprimer le contenu de la foi. Le mystère réunit le cinéma et la théologie, par la représentation (cinéma) et lÂ’intelligence (théologie).

LÂ’Abbé Iacobone du Conseil pontifical de la Culture présente (p. 53-56) le Congrès international " Marco Marulić, Poète Croate et Humaniste Catholique : une proposition pour le troisième millénaire ", organisé sous lÂ’égide de ce Dicastère, en collaboration avec le Centre Marulianum de Split et le Collège Pontifical Croate de Saint-Jérôme de Rome, les 26-29 novembre dernier, à lÂ’Université pontificale Grégorienne. Marco Marulić, laïc, humaniste, moraliste et témoin dÂ’une spiritualité authentique et profonde, est un modèle dÂ’homme accompli, artisan de cet humanisme chrétien plénier qui est la proposition la plus actuelle et urgente que lÂ’Église puisse faire à lÂ’homme du troisième millénaire.

El Padre Pasquale Iacobone del Pontificio Consejo de la Cultura, presentó (p. 53-56) el Convenio Internacional sobre Marco Marulić, Poeta Croata y Humanista Católico: una propuesta para la Europa del tercer milenio, organizado por este Dicasterio en colaboración con el Centro Marulianum de Split y el Pontificio Colegio Croata San Jerónimo con sede en Roma. El Convenio se realizó del 26 al 29 de noviembre de 1998 en la "Aula Magna" de la Pontificia Universidad Gregoriana. Marco Marulić, laico, humanista, moralista y testigo de profunda y auténtica espiritualidad, hoy está presente como modelo de hombre completo, artífice de aquel Humanismo Cristiano que es una propuesta muy actual y de compromiso y que la Iglesia ofrece al hombre del tercer milenio.
