LETTER OF HIS HOLINESS
JOHN PAUL II
TO H.E. Mr SAM NUJOMA
PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA
To His Excellency Mr Sam Nujoma
President-elect of the Republic of Namibia
On the occasion of the celebrations marking the Independence of Namibia, I offer
Your Excellency cordial good wishes and felicitations.
As the Republic of Namibia takes its rightful place in the family of nations, I
express the fervent hope that it will ever experience the blessings of social
harmony and an integral development which favours the well-being of all its
citizens. Through profound respect for the dignity of every individual and the
rights of all social groups, may your country progress steadily on the path of
authentic freedom and prosperity. It is my heartfelt prayer that Namibia will
make its proper contribution to the establishment of justice and lasting peace
in Africa and throughout the world.
With sentiments of respect and esteem, I invoke upon Your Excellency and all
your fellow-citizens the abundant blessings of Almighty God.
From the Vatican, 11 March 1990.
