The integrated List of Propositions (Elenchus unicus propositionem), presented in the Twenty-fourth General Congregation of Tuesday morning, 9 December 1997, was amended by the Small Groups, with the work of preparation and approval of the collective amendments (Modi) on the Propositions in Sessions XIII and XIV of Tuesday afternoon, 9 December 1997, and Wednesday morning, 10 December 1997.

There were 194 Fathers present in Session XIII, and 184 Fathers present in Session XIV.

On the afternoon of yesterday, 10 December 1997, the Relator General, together with the Special Secretaries, examined the collective amendments on the Propositions and prepared the final List of Propositions, that will be presented in the Twenty-fourth General Congregation of this morning.

The Twenty-fourth General Congregation of the Synod of Bishops, Special Assembly of America, commenced at 9:10 this morning, Thursday, 11 December 1997, the Feast of St. Damasus I, Pope, with the chant of the Third Hour, in the Synod Hall, for the presentation of the final List of Propositions, with the reading of the amendments to the integrated List of Propositions. President Delegate on duty: H. Em. Rev. Card. Eugênio DE ARAÚJO SALES, Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.

During the opening of this Twenty-fourth General Congregation, the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops read the following message of Brother Roger, of Taizé:

"Taizé, the 9^th of December, 1997, Msgr. Castrillon Hoyos, President Delegate of the Synod, Vatican:
Monsignor,
In Taizé, with my brothers, with the young, we are praying for the Synod of Bishops. Also, we are as close as the brothers living on the two American continents, from Alagoinhas (Brazil) and to New York. Dear Monsignor, I know you are close within the communion of the Church.
Brother Roger, of Taizé."

Afterwards, the Relator General, H. Em. Rev. Card. Juan SANDOVAL ÍÑIGUEZ, Archbishop of Guadalajara, presented the amendments to the integrated List of Propositions.

The "Presentation to the Press" of the Propositions, will be published in Bulletin No. 29, of this morning.

According to the work calendar, the final vote on the final List of Propositions will be held during the Twenty-fifth General Congregation of this afternoon, which will be the last Congregation. The works as originally scheduled on the work calendar, regarding the Twenty-sixth General Congregation of tomorrow morning, will take place during the last General Congregation of this afternoon.

During this General Congregation, which concluded at 10:15am, with the prayer "Angelus Domini," there were 218 Fathers present.
