AUDITIO DELEGATORUM FRATERNORUM (VI) - CONTINUATION

The following Fraternal Delegate intervened:

-
H. G. IRINEJ [Bulović], Bishop of Bačka (SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO)

The summary of the intervention is published below:

- H. G. IRINEJ [Bulović], Bishop of Bačka (SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO)

1. For each Christian generation, the evangelization of the world is always a new evangelization.
Better said, it is not essentially novum but is performed nove each time, in a new way, under conditions of dialogue with each new epoch, with a greater or lesser renewed inculturation. Withal, God-Man Jesus Christ is One and the same, yesterday, today and unto the ages
2. The Theandric process of evangelization is single and unitary, but quite varied and multifaceted in its forms and methods. We address the depersonalized and secularized man of Western Europe and America quite differently than we do the equally, although in a different way, depersonalized and spiritually devastated man of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet space, while bringing the Good News of Christ to both one and the other differently than our predecessors did only a few decades ago, in a society that was still majority or at least formally Christian.
Nevertheless, the basic traditional models and paths of evangelization are still necessary and useful - in fact irreplaceable. Of course, success in evangelization is not possible today without the use of all the modern technological possibilities (radio, television, Internet, etc.), but it should also not be forgotten that nothing can replace the living word and the direct witnessing of our faith, our hope and our love.

3. The goal of evangelization must not be mere increase in the number of Christians, and especially not the creation of new, fragmentary Christians besides the already existing ones, or even semi-Christians (although even that is better than nothing); rather, its goal must be true growth of the Body of Christ in height and in breadth, as well as the spiritual growth and maturation of Christians as personalities to authentic virtue and freedom, that is, to a dynamic state of holiness, deification, Christification, which in practice means - ecclesiation (ekklesiasmós ).
Evangelization is moving in two parallel directions: ad intra and ad extra. Withal, the first, inner one, which addresses Christians, is the precondition and prerequisite for the success of the second, external one, oriented towards potential future Christians.
4. In order to evangelize our neighbors, we must first evangelize ourselves, in synergy with the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete Who purifies us and saves us. Authority in the Church emanates from sacrifice and service, and is not founded in ruling and submitting. The time of triumphalism for the Church is a thing of the past, and that is a good thing: contemporary evangelization is exclusively kenotic, humble, diaconical, crucifixional-resurrectional.
Not only living people are subject to the need for a new evangelization, but also ecclesiastic services, that is, the ecclesiastic institutions themselves. The spiritually unnatural antagonism between charisma and the institution must be overcome: the ecclesiastical institution is by definition charismatic. In that context, a new evangelization would be a welcome thing also for Christian monasticism.
5. Wherever and whenever possible, I believe that we should carry out evangelization ad extra through a joint effort, mutually supporting each other. Most frequently, this is easily attainable. There is no danger that, in the course of our joint testimony of the basic truths of faith and life before our contemporaries, arguments should break out on dogmatic issues. Especially valuable are joint testimony regarding the vital problems of today's humanity, including bioethical and ecological problems, as well as joint appearances before government organs, in the media and before various secular actors. We in Serbia possess relatively lengthy and fruitful experience in such a joint or ecumenical evangelical activity on the part of Christians.
Such a relationship requires sincere openness, mutual trust and, above all, love. I believe that the spiritual radiation from the Second Vatican Council among you, and the authentic spirit and the living Tradition of the Orthodox Church among us have a stronger effect than does the spirit of sectarian parochialism. “He Who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (Jn 4:4).

TWENTY-FIRST GENERAL CONGREGATION (FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 2012 - AFTERNOON)

- PRESENTATION OF THE FINAL LIST OF PROPOSITIONS
- COMPOSITION OF XIII ORDINARY COUNCIL OF THE GENERAL SECRETARIAT OF THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS

Today, Friday, October 26 2012, at 5:30 p.m, in the presence of the Holy Father, with the prayer
Pro Felici Synodi Exitu, the Twentieth General Congregation began for the reading in the Hall of the Final List of Propositions.

At this General Congregation, which ended at 7:00 pm with the prayer of Angelus Domini 249 Fathers were present.

PRESENTATION OF THE FINAL LIST OF PROPOSITIONS

The Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, His Exc. Mons. Nikola ETEROVIĆ, recalled, with reference to Article 67 of the Vademecum Synodi Episcoporum, that the Final List of Propositions will be the object of private study by the Synodal Fathers, with a view to preparing the final vote.

Furthermore, he recalled that the Final List of Propositions file is a voting form for the Synodal Fathers. For this reason it will be given to the Fathers in a single copy for each of them; since this is not a secret vote, but an open vote on the single Propositions (with the formula del of or Non placet), the Synodal Fathers will have to return the form signed at the Twenty-Second General Congregation of tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 27 2012.
