COMMUNICATION OF THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS

The Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, H. Em. Card. Jan P. SCHOTTE, c.i.c.m. gave the following communication:

Today, Tuesday October 23th 2001, the General Relator of the Tenth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, H. Em. Cardinal Edward Michael EGAN, Archbishop of New York, after having presided last October 11th in his Cathedral during the celebrations for the month after the terrorist massacre, finds himself in the upsetting situation of having to leave the Synodal Assembly to return to his faithful, where his presence is required by necessity.

BRIEFING FOR THE LANGUAGE GROUPS

The third (and last) briefing for the Language Groups with the Press Officers accompanied by a Synod Father for each language, will take place tomorrow Wednesday 24th October 2001 at 13:00 (in the locations and with the Press Officers indicated in Bulletin no. 2).

Follows the list of the Synod Fathers for each language group:

Englisch Language Group

  • H.E. Most Rev. George PELL, Archbishop of Sydney (Australia).

French Language Group

  • H. Em. Card. Jean HONORÉ, Archbishop Emeritus of Tours (France).

Italian Language Group

  • H. Em. Card. Camillo RUINI, Vicar General of His Holiness, President of the Episcopal Conference (Italy).

German Language Group

  • H. Em. Card. Joachim MEISNER, Archbishop of Köln (Germany).

Spanish Language Group

  • H. Em. Card. Francisco Javier ERRÁZURIZ OSSA, of the "Schönstatt" Fathers, Archbishop of Santiago, Chile, President of the Episcopal Conference.
