This is the last number of the “Synodus Episcoporum” Bulletin, published by the Holy See Press Office with information on the Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops, which took place from 10 to 24 October 2010 in the Vatican, on the theme The Catholic Church in the Middle East:Communion and Witness. "Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul" (Acts 4:32).

The Holy See Press Office also organized the Temporary Office “del Fungo” for the translation and publication of information, coordinated by Vik VAN BRANTEGEM, Delegate of the Director of the Holy See Press Office.

This Temporary Office was also in charge of sending all the information released in real time to Vatican Radio, L’Osservatore Romano and Vatican Information Service and publishing on the Holy See’s website.

PUBLICATIONS

“SYNODUS EPISCOPORUM” BULLETIN

During the Special Assembly for Middle East of the Synod of Bishops, the “Synodus Episcoporum” Bulletin,was published in the plurilingual, Italian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic versions, giving accredited journalists the chance to follow the work of the Synod on a day-to-day basis. It also allowed the Synodal Fathers to have an immediate summary of the work that took place. Finally, through the Internet, it reached the media operators and non-journalistic organizations throughout the world.

From 8 to 24 October 2010, 27 editions of the “Synodus Episcoporum” Bulletin were published with an overall circulation of about 1.260 copies (310 plurilingual, 222 Italian, 194 English, 259 French, 94 Spanish, and 183 Arabic) totaling 39.760 copies in the 6 language editions. Also, further editions were published for various numbers in the different languages.

ELECTRONIC INFORMATION SERVICE

The Temporary Office of the Holy See Press Office, in charge of publication and translation of information on the Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops, made available in electronic form all the information released, with a total of 1.050 files for 210 texts in 5 language versions (Italian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic) and of 162 files for the 27 numbers of the “Synodus Episcoporum” Bulletin in 6 language versions (plurilingual, Italian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic), to the Graphics Office of L’Osservatore Romano, to SEDOC (Central Documentation Service) of Vatican Radio, to the Editorial Office of the Vatican Information Service.

It was also in charge, for the eighth time, of the HTML and Internet publication of the “Synodus Episcoporum” Bulletin, in the 6 language versions (plurilingual, Italian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic), available on the Holy See website (http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/synod/index_en.htm). From 8 to 24 October 2010, the section dedicated to the Synod of Bishops on the site www.vatican.va was accessed 19933 times. The Bulletin was consulted 31803 times, on a daily average of 1870 times (plurilingual edition 2774 times, Italian 11233 times, English 7482 times, French 4744 times, Spanish 3928 times, Arabic 1642 times), with accesses from 140 Countries.

The content of the Bollettino Synodus Episcoporum could be accessed from Vatican Radio’s Mappa interattiva, available on the website http://www.radiovaticana.org.

ACCREDITATION

For this Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops, in addition to the permanently accredited journalists, another 130 correspondents were added, who came specially to Rome from 20 countries, representing 90 newspapers and broadcast organizations to cover this event.
