MESSAGE OF THE HOLY FATHER JOHN PAUL II
ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD LITERACY DAY 1992*
As UNESCO celebrates the 26th World literacy Day, I am happy to join in spirit with all those who work with you to give their contemporaries access to an increasingly dignified life through their mastery of reading and writing. During this year which marks the fifth centenary of the encounter of the two worlds whose cultures would enrich one another it is good to affirm once again literacy's importance for all. Expressing my cordial wishes for the observance's success, I invoke the blessing of the Most High upon you and all those with you.
IOANNES PAULUS PP. II
