APOSTOLIC JOURNEY
OF HIS HOLINESS JOHN PAUL II
TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS JOHN PAUL II
TO THE CHILDREN AT THE UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS

United Nations Headquarters (New York, NY)
Thursday, 5 October 1995

It was wonderful your singing for peace. It was wonderful for it was for peace. And it was wonderful that you did so in song, for we know a great man, St. Augustine, do you know him? Not so much... St. Augustine was a great doctor of the Church, a great philosopher, a theologian, he said, "qui cantat bis orat" singing is praying twice. So in singing for peace, you are praying twice for peace. But, I should say that not only twice, you are praying three times, for you pray singing, so twice, and you pray as children, and children have a special power over the heart of the Father. So this prayer for peace you sang was very nice and very fruitful. And it will be fruitful, I am convinced. I wrote a letter to the children of the whole world. I asked them to pray for peace, for humanity, for the Church, for peace. And I see that you are doing that in a very good manner, and therefore, I bless you.
