MESSAGE OF THE HOLY FATHER LEO XIV,
SIGNED BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE PIETRO PAROLIN,
TO PARTICIPANTS IN THE 12th LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS ON SCIENCE AND RELIGIONE
[Rome, 10-12 September 2025]
________________________________________
His Holiness Leo XIV
cordially greets the
Reverend Father José Enrique Oyarzún, L.C.,
Rector Magnificent of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum
and the organizers and participants in the Twelfth Latin American Congress on Science and Religon which, entitled The Languages of Creation. The scientific, philosophical and theological hermeneutics of the ‘Book of Nature’ as a path of hope, will take place in Rome on the days 10, 11 and 12 September, and invites all the participants to seek ways that allow man to “rise above all things that can be measured to see the measure without measure; to surpass all beings that can be counted to contemplate the number that has no number; to exalt himself above all things that can be weighed in order to observe the weight that has no weight” (Saint Augustine, De Genesi ad litteram, IV, 3, 8).
In this way, even without “speaking words”, God's work will proclaim the glory of its Creator, and man will be able to hear its message of hope not only in the brightness of the clear days of his existence, but also in the nights of anguish and tribulation that are part of the human condition (cf. Psalm 19:1-4).
With these wishes, the Holy Father, while invoking upon all of you the Sweet Name of Mary, Star of the Morning, asks the Lord to sustain your work with his grace and affectionately imparts his Apostolic Blessing.
Vatican, 3 September 2025
Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State
