In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Peace be with you.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am pleased to welcome you all to the Vatican, to Rome. Are all of you cardiologists from the Paris Course on Revascularization? You represent those engaged in advancing the science and practice of interventional cardiology. I thank you for your visit which is during this Jubilee of Hope — a year in which the whole Church lifts her eyes to the Lord who renews strength, rekindles courage and teaches us to hope even amid human fragility.
Your work stands at the crossroads of science, compassion and ethical responsibility. The Church consistently affirms the vocation of scientific inquiry, which opens the human person to truth and to a deeper service of the common good (cf. Francis, Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium, 5). You embody this spirit whenever you seek to heal the heart, both physically and metaphorically, bringing relief to those who suffer and bringing hope to their families.
Indeed, the “service of life” is foundational to every authentic medical act, for it reflects the tenderness with which Christ himself drew near to the sick and the vulnerable (cf. John Paul II, Encyclical Evangelium Vitae, 41). His steadfast love inspires the dedication you show through research, training and the delicate interventions that preserve life. Each heartbeat entrusted to your care is a reminder that life is a gift, always a mystery to be reverenced. I encourage you, therefore, to continue fostering a spirit of global collaboration, to share knowledge generously and to ensure that advances in treatment remain accessible to all, especially the poor and marginalized.
With these brief thoughts, I entrust your work to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, physician of souls and bodies. May your organization remain a beacon of hope, illuminating the profound unity between scientific excellence and the service of humanity. Thank you, and may the Lord bless you with his gifts of courage, perseverance and joy.
If you stand, I will invoke the Lord’s blessing upon all of you and I will be happy to greet you all personally. Then we can do a group photograph.
The Lord be with you. May the blessing of Almighty God, the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit come upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.
